America has been moving toward secularism not long after the Civil War. What you are seeing now is simply the progression that has been developing. In the mid-1800's the country was 'invaded' by a host of cults and sects. The once orthodox Presbyterian churches were taken over by Liberals and the Continental Reformed churches opened their doors to Neo-Orthodoxy (aka: Barthianism). Common Evangelical churches moved from Arminianism to semi-Pelagianism and adopted an anti-intellectual stand. Thus, once the visible church turns it back on biblical Christianity, it loses its power to change lives. Hedonism takes over along with rank individualism and thus secularism is the natural result. The first thing to go is typical morality based upon a Judeo-Christian ethic. So the United States is definitely not unique. I've written this many times before but perhaps it bears repeating. It is one thing to read of the downfall of a civilization or nation in history books. But it is an entirely different matter when you are living in the era when YOUR country is sliding into the pit. The same mentality exists when it comes to denominations. People tend to see THEIR denomination as basically invincible and all others are susceptible to error and eventual apostasy. Thus, over time as the denomination departs from orthodoxy it is usually not recognized by its members, minimized and even denied. By the time people wake up from their own deception, i.e., those who actually wake from their slumber, it is too late to undo the damage that has been done over the years and rescue the denomination.

The same social issues existed and continue to exist in Europe and in every country of the world see above re: immorality. The Lord raises up nations and takes them down. And woe to such nations as Great Britain and these United States for they were given a marvelous measure of God's benevolence and a soundness of the Church before they turned their back on biblical Christianity.Their judgment will be more severe than those nations who were never given any measure of kindness in comparison. We must heed the words of the Lord Christ with all seriousness: Matthew 24:43-46 (ASV) "But know this, that if the master of the house had known in what watch the thief was coming, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken through. Therefore be ye also ready; for in an hour that ye think not the Son of man cometh. Who then is the faithful and wise servant, whom his lord hath set over his household, to give them their food in due season? Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing."
