I'm sure some of you have already heard of this new Presbyrerian denomination: http://www.erpchurch.org/What are your views on it?
True godliness is a sincere feeling which loves God as Father as much as it fears and reverences Him as Lord, embraces His righteousness, and dreads offending Him worse than death~ Calvin

I read through their website. Looks like they've got some gripes with what they're calling the Orthodox Presby's.

Marie,
I am not surprised that a new Presbyterian denomination has been established. The current situation within what are considered conservative Presbyterian churches is lamentable. It was only a matter of time before men who are committed to the "faith once delivered unto the saints" took the radical step in separating themselves from their respective denominations who have allowed heretical teachings to be held and taught by its ministers.
From what material they have online, it would appear that their motives are pure, the foundation is solid and their expectation promising. It will be my fervent prayer that they will be blessed of God and many will join with them with the singular intent to return to the "old paths". And so, I find myself both saddened by what has precipitated this action taken and rejoicing that there are men who are willing to stand firm against what will surely be the eventual demise of what were a light to the world. I wonder if J. Gresham Machen ever thought such a thing would happen to the Orthodox Presbyterian Church?
Thanks for posting this information.
In His Grace,
simul iustus et peccator

I've been increasingly alarmed at the drift I see in the PCA, so this new denomination is not surprising. I was not aware that such a denomination exists.
I looked for names of individuals but could find none. Does anyone know the individuals involved? I am cautiously optomistic, but would really like to know the folks who are the driving force.

Pilgrim,
There are some who believe that J. Gresham Machen worked himself to death in organizing and bring the OPC into being. I'm sure that he would be sad concerning the reality of this disaster. However I believe he would be delighted and proud of his brothers in the new denomination that still stand for the WCF and justification by faith alone.
Shame on the ministers and elders who should know better for allowing this debacle to come into being. (The votes over this issue were always close, the Gospel and the WCF losing generally by only a few) To me, this is what happens and is inevitable when the Word of God is forsaken for the sake of unity.

Though not a Presbyterian, I am saddened by the fact that there has been so much doctrinal entropy and decline in the PCA and OPC, especially considering their noble and promising beginnings. I am reminded of Paul's chilling warning to the Corinthians: "Let anyone who thinks that he stands take heed lest he fall" (1 Corinthians 10:12). While I found most everything on the site commendable, I do wonder if this is the right place to draw the line in the sand: We are committed to the doctrine of creation of the heavens and earth in six literal, 24-hour days. Scripture is its own interpreter, and its words have meaning in context. The meaning of the word translated "day" in the Genesis creation record is clear from the context and from its usage elsewhere in Scripture. But the Orthodox Presbyterian church, for example, has adopted what it calls a "hermeneutic of trust" where it is permissible to say that the "day" of Genesis chapter one is anything from a literal day to billions of years — as long as a minister says that he subscribes to the doctrine of "creation in the space of six days" contained in the Westminster Confession of Faith." Regardless of where one stands on the nature of the days of Creation in Genesis or the age of the universe (and I have no interest in debating that topic here at this time), is it a good idea to draw the circumference of orthodoxy so tightly around the center that there would not be room within it for men like James Montgomery Boice, Charles Hodge, B.B. Warfield, Meredith Kline, J. I. Packer, Vern Poythress, and Francis Schaeffer? Are all these men really just modernist "compromisers" as Ken Ham, Jonathan Sarfati, and others would allege? <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/shrug.gif" alt="" />

I got the impression that they took it as an attack on the inerrancy of scripture. "Sure it says days, but is a day REALLY 24 hours long?" or "Sure it says don't kill people but are those folks REALLY people?"
