Who are the CRE and the CREC denominations? And their distinctives?

I think the first might be connected with Doug Wilson.

John,

For the benefit of people like myself who don't keep up with all that is going on with denominational splits, etc.. could you spell out those acrostics; CRE and CREC?

Pilgrim,,

I don't know what CRE stand for.

CREC (I think) stands for Confederation of Reformed & Evangelical Churches. I heard about this one because of a Rick Lusk being called to a PCA church. The Presbytery would not accept his transfer, thus the church is petitioning to join with the CREC.

Yes, the CREC stands for the Confederation of Reformed Evangelical Churches; their website is at http://www.crechurches.org/ and this is the group with which Douglas Wilson is associated. I don't know about the CRE--don't know what those initials would stand for.

There is indeed a church in Birmingham, Alabama that was a PCA church and has now withdrawn from the PCA and hopes to become part of the CREC. Once called Reformed Heritage Presbyterian, they are now known as Trinity Presbyterian. Their website is http://www.trinity-pres.net/

Thanks Theo,

What is the driving force behind the CREC? Is it Theonomy with a big "T". Since they allow credos, I suppose it cannot be hyper-Sacramentalism (or whatever one would call it).

John,

I don't know what the "driving force" is behind the formation of the CREC. But this much I CAN tell you for certain, if Doug Wilson is involved with it then it most definitely has to do with "hyper-covenantalism", "Shepherdism", the "Auburnites" and "NPP", which are basically teaching the same things with small differences.

What's a man to do with them? That's an easy question to answer: [Linked Image]

I wish I knew the answer to that question; it may very well be the Auburn Avenue type of theology, but I honestly don't know. It is confusing to me because that theological viewpoint DOES seem to have a different perspective on the Sacraments--at least Baptism--from that held by the Greenville Presbyterian group, for example, or even the PCA churches exemplified by churches such as Briarwood. But as you say, the CREC welcomes credobaptists--at least that is my own understanding.

I freely admit I don't have a clue.

CRE and CREC are two different terms for the same thing. They are the churches related to the theology of Doug Wilson/Auburn avenue.
