What would be the more distinguishing characteristics of churches in the CREC denomination?

The CREC is Doug Wilson's brainchild, and consequently Federal Vision theology runs strong. From what I understand, they practice paedocommunion (an outworking of Federal Vision's hyper-covenantalism).

For some reason I seem to recall that the CREC has also been an amalgam of paedobaptist and credobaptist churches--or at least coexistence between members of both positions within churches. I don't know if they are now moving towards more uniformity of paedobaptist positions or if they still have both positions; they started out with Evangelical Free Church roots, if I am not mistaken.

They allow credobaptists to become members, but I believe they are officially paedobaptist. I don't know that they have Evangelical Free roots; the founding three member churches were originally all "Evangelical Fellowships."

Kyle,

This is where I had gotten my information:

http://www.terrymorin.com

That site says:

Christ Church, Moscow, was planted as a mission church of the Evangelical Free Church of Pullman in 1975. By the early 1990s the church, then called Community Evangelical Fellowship, had grown to about 80 families, and was led by four elders, Bob Callihan, Fred Kohl, Terry Morin, and Doug Wilson. Although the origin of CEF was in the Evangelical Free Church, the doctrinal character of Doug Wilson's pulpit and teaching ministry began to take on a Reformed orientation, first embracing a postmillennial eschatology in the late 1980s, and moving toward a Calvinistic soteriology in 1990 or thereabout. The underlying tensions in the church due to this doctrinal shift on Doug's part resulted in the departure of his brother, Evan, from the session and the church in 1990. In early 1993, Doug advised the elders of CEF of a shift in his understanding of the nature of the church, of the means of entry into the New Covenant, and of the proper subjects of baptism. Those views became what he now calls the "Federal Vision."

I think he is right about Christ Church, Moscow, being a mission church of the EvFree denomination--but I don't know about some of the other founding churches of the CREC. It'd be interesting to know more about this.

What's funny in my mind is the emphasis in paedo-communion. They are quite content in allowing for both paedo/credo baptism proponenets in their churches, but some of there other emphasises is why I asked the question. What is driving them, or what makes them get along with one another, especially with the baptism divide?

My guess is Theonomy and hyper-covenantalism, but I would like to get other thoughts.

I have known two people personally who are either already in CREC or thinking about going over there. And both, in my opinion, are driven by hyper-covenantalism and to a lesser degree, by some form of theonomy.

I bet that's where RC Sproul Jr will end up too.
