What are your thoughts about this statement by John Owen? Does he exaggerate or accurately portray the nature of sin?

I agree with him, although sadly I don't always believe it...

Actually, I was just thinking of that quote this very morning in light of a particular sin that so easily entangles me. We are going through Jerry Bridges' book Respectable Sins in Sunday School, which is really convicting!!
