Perhaps you just dont understand who it is that is to see these things come to pass. Just because John wrote these things down 2000 years ago doesnt mean the people who lived 2000 years ago witnessed these things. Give that Henry was a Presbyterian in the mid 1600's, it is more likely that he was Postmil, although it is possible that he was Amil. Oh, Matthew Henry's complete commentary can be accessed online here: Matthew Henry's Concise Commentary.

I was many years a Christian before I ever heard of any eschatological view other than Dispensational Premillennialism. I was taught that all Christians in all times had always believed nothing else concerning the "end times." Imagine my feelings when I first heard that the majority report among evangelicals is actually little more than 100 years old!
And it was a study of eschatology and history that led me out of "Charismania," in fact. A weird form of "Postmillennialism" could be found among some of the Charismatics I knew, but it took a much more literal view of Bible prophecy than the historical / Reformed version.
I also find that most Charismatics have never heard of any eschatology other than the popular "Left Behind" scenario I had always simply accepted unquestioningly until I started reading church history! Now if I ever get back to college I would love to major in church history. But I think everyone should at least have a general "survey" course in church history.

Like you it was many years into my Christian walk before I knew there was another position other than Dispensationalism. Though, during that time I did run into an older couple who told me they didn't believe in Dispensationalism. At the time I can't remember ever being curious enough to want to look into the matter further. I do remember that the couple who told me that they didn't believe in Dispensationalism were 5 point Calvinists (something that I didn't understand either) and that they also were Continuists, but not in the same way many Charismatic’s were. What I find a little strange back then is my mom and I went to their house many times for Bible study, where the main topic was Calvinism. However, most of what they said went right over both my mom's and my head. In fact, for years after that I thought a Calvinist just meant someone who believes "once saved always saved".
