‘Antinomianism - one of the greatest curses conceivable!’ So asserts D M Lloyd-Jones. But what is ‘antinomianism’? The word itself was first coined, I understand, by Luther. It is derived from the Greek, ‘against law’ or ‘anti law’. By ‘law’, the reference is to the moral law (the ten commandments, or decalogue). And the crux of the matter has to do with ‘the third use of the law’. This article by Richard Brooks is ancillary to the last three articles on the "New Calvinism" and to a great degree applicable to an older movement known as NCT; New Covenant Theology. Where the "New Calvinism" movement is cross-denominational, NCT has mainly affected Baptist denominations. Antinomianism has many 'flavors' as it has developed throughout its many years of existence. The problem, however, is one that originates in the hearts and minds of all without exception; the believing world as well as the unbelieving world. Therefore, it is relevant and a real danger to those who profess to be followers of Christ. You can read this article here: Antinomianism. In His service and grace,
simul iustus et peccator
