How would you respond to someone who started using 1 Tim.2 against a woman who participated in a blog such as this one? The topic is homosexuality and the woman was rightly talking homosexuality being a sin. This person then tried to tell her that the Scripture passages should not be taken literal, because the context proves otherwise. He then tried to change the topic and said that if it was literal, then she shouldn't based on 1Tim. 2 be saying these things as a woman.
Understand, I don't think it is hard to prove that homosexuality is a sin and I think the person is using the tactic he did, because he is trying to divert attention away from the truth. I also think he might be a homosexual trying to justify himself. However, I am wondering if I choose to defend her, how I can show that her participating in a discussion like that is not usurping authority over a man. There have been a lot of women over the years on the Highway Forums, who have contributed to these forums and I have learned a lot from them. I doubt very much that their participating on these forums is in violation of 1 Tim. 2. Thoughts?

Certainly not. Even if she is a moderator, she's not usurping spiritual or domestic authority over anyone.
Would this guy claim 1st Timothy 2 if his company hired a woman to be his supervisor? I bet not.

This topic has been discussed myriad times here. The CONTEXT of 1Tim 2 is in regard to the Church, the corporate assembly of the saints. No woman is allowed nor qualified to occupy any official position nor office within the Church that has authority over men. Now, I will readily admit that I will not vote for any woman for President or Vice-President of this country (USA), which is my personal decision. But I cannot base my decision upon 1Tim 2 directly. It would be wrong for me to suggest the passage addresses that situation in particular.

Thank you Robin and Pilgrim
I was actually thinking along the same lines you mentioned. However, I needed some clarification before I post an answer.
