Would you then be happier with a quote that went something like the following?
Quote
Scripture informs prayer and the Holy Spirit illuminates Scripture through prayerful reading and study.
Not sure I like the flow of that for memory purposes, but it probably avoids potential misunderstanding.

Thank you for your concern.

Just so you know the reason why I even started this thread is because I know that when I post something like this, like it or not I am going to get honest feedback. I have found even when I disagree with the answers given; which is a rare occurrence on The Highway, it usually makes me think through the issues deeper.
I also want to say that basically the reason why I even wanted to create this quote and use other quotes is not only has it helped me think about my faith more, they have provided an avenue of ministry, for a few friends and acquaintances. I meet with a few men around once or twice a week, to discuss Scripture, discuss ways to deal with life as it happens around us and prayer. We also regularly text each other when we have something to say.

As I am sure you realize but, perhaps some others have not yet discovered, The Highway does have a Quotes Forum as well as a Devotional Forum which has many good quotes and short devotionals that can be used.

Hi Tom,

While I visit The Highway often, I seldom post.
I have read many of your posts Tom, and always enjoy them and the ensuing discussion they inevitably provoke.

I share your liking for pithy quotes!
John Trapp's phrase "fullness of content in fewness of words"is quite apt!

I was also encouraged by your admirable desire to link Scripture and Prayer into one memorable concise quote.
I was reminded of you this morning when reading Matthew Henry's Commentary on Psalm 85:

"If we would have God to hear what we say to him by prayer, we must be ready to hear what he says to us by his word"
MHC on Ps 85:8-12.

The problem with your original quote was the use the word "informs", so I gave some thought to a substitute word appropriate to both Scripture and Prayer. I think I have a word which is worth considering:

"Scripture solicits prayer; prayer solicits Scripture"

It also has the added appeal of symmetry and alliteration.

Thank you again Tom for your enjoyable posts.

Tom Mor.

Tom

Thank you for saying those things about me, I appreciate it.
I agree with you that your quote fits what I had in mind better than my quote.

As I indicated, I actually knew there was a problem with my quote. Yet, at the time I didn't know of a better way to say it. Starting this thread was the best way I knew how to solve my problem and even though it took a little longer than expected (probably because of poor communication skills), I am happy with the results.

Tom
