Not sure if I used the best title for this one. This past weekend during a prayer time with some men at my Church; I was praying something concerning evangelism and in doing so I said something to the effect of: "Father you said in you Word". (Sorry can't remember the Scripture verse) About a half hour laster one of the men in that group, talked to me privately that Jeaus actually said what I quoted and therefore I should have given Him credit for saying it.
First of all, although I realize Jesus said it, I never thought about this aspect before. Was I wrong to say what I did in my prayer?

You said, "Father you said in your[r] word..." so you weren't actually saying that the Father specifically said something, although He did, but through the Word which is how the Father communicates to men. And, all that Jesus taught was what the Father wanted Him to say (Jh 12:49).

Pilgrim Exactly, I was a little taken back by my friend's comment. He thinks that we should address Jesus when He directly says something we quote. I did not answer at the time, because I want to make certain I understand the issue, before I do. I also don't want to appear disrespectful, because I have a lot of respect for him and for the most part agree with each other on theology. At this point, I am not even sure, I should say anything to him. Tom

Would it be wrong to say that the Word of God is the Word of all three members of the Trinity? Tom

Just to make sure everyone knows that my terrible spelling in this thread had to do with the fact I wasn't wearing my reading glasses and the key pad on my phone is small. Tom

Would it be wrong to say that the Word of God is the Word of all three members of the Trinity? Tom Yes and No! Yes, because there is but one GOD in three persons who are One. No, because it was God the Spirit who 'carried along' those men whom God chose to record His revealed will. Conclusion: The Bible is the Word of God.

If I decided to say something to my friend about his comments to me. Would the following be correct and if not, how could I word it better?
"Last Saturday, after prayer, you mentioned that in my prayer I gave credit to the Father something that the Son said. As I am in the habit of doing, when people say things to me like that, I like to look into matters like that more. As I was looking at Scripture in particular John 12:49, it seemed to me that my prayer was not wrong, because Christ speaks what the Father tells Him to."

If what you prayed and related to us here is accurate, then the emphasis was upon what was said in the WORD which you attributed to the Father, who is generally the one who is addressed in prayer. There is nothing wrong with that. You could have alternately prayed, "As Jesus said..." which would be equally appropriate. IF, however, you would have prayed that the Father said... leaving out "in Your Word", then your antagonist would be justified in correcting you.

Thankyou Pilgrim
I would not call him an antagonist, seeing he is a very genuine Christian and a good friend.
