I've recently had the privilege of a private email exchange with Joseph Nally, one of your own at IIIMill. He directed me here, as he hadn't time to continue the exchange. One thing he said was (my emphasis): Though it is not recorded that God said anything like, "Adam, I command you to name these animal" this does not mean He didn’t! Genesis 1-2 is not a complete record. It is historical and it is accurate, but it is not complete (does not recount every conversation between God and Adam, or every aspect of creation). In addition, Adam could have been just following the example of God himself in naming each of the days. Or he could have been told to name items, as in those days naming something meant your power over that which was named, which Adam was given by God (Gen 1:26). We simply do not know. I'm wondering what 3Mill teaches about God and Adam actually conversing. Nally here seems to be saying that they did, indeed, converse. But the accounts (Gen 1 and 2) do not say they conversed. On what grounds should we assume they did? Thanks.

I'm wondering what 3Mill teaches about God and Adam actually conversing. Nally here seems to be saying that they did, indeed, converse. But the accounts (Gen 1 and 2) do not say they conversed. On what grounds should we assume they did? 1. The Highway is not affiliated with ThirdMill and thus you would have to ask them directly for their own views. 2. Of course God conversed with Adam and Eve, e.g., Genesis 1:27-29 (ASV) "And God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. And God blessed them: and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it; and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the heavens, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth. And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb yielding seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for food:" Genesis 2:16-17 (ASV) "And Jehovah God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die." Of course, in chapter 3 there is the record of the exchange between God and Adam and Eve after their transgression of God's specific prohibition against eating of the fruit of the tree of good and evil, etc. etc. Now, unless you are using a totally different definition of "converse", I would say those examples qualify.
