How would you respond to someone who said the following:

Quote
Pre-Mil due to the Hebraic-hermeneutical method to Bible prophecy. This is the method attested to throughout all of Scripture as opposed to the dominant Augustinian GentileCentric-hermeneutic (allegorization)
If one were to apply this simple LGH method to Zechariah it would consistently harmonize with Revelation. The symbols would rightly be attributed to their literal counterparts and their eschatology would not be as confusing as others make it out to be.

I assume this guy is referring to Dispensational Pre-Millennialism.
I ask this question mainly because he has touched on an area I know little about.

The first thing that came to my mind when I heard this is I guess he is not a Calvinist and he may favor theologians like NT Wright and his NPP.
However, I have no idea, if that is correct.

Really, Tom? "Hebraic-hermeneutical method"... "Augustinian GentileCentric-hermeneutic" dizzy

Walk away and don't look back. You need to know when to play and one to fold. wink Time is too short to be wasting your time on people who are deceived, delusional and determined to cause trouble. [Linked Image]

I am a slow learning those lessons, but as I get older I am starting to learn sometimes as you said it is better to fold. In this particular case, I knew I should not say anything when I really had no idea what he was talking about. You may not realize this, but you have worn off on me more than you know. Why else would I be still here after all these years? wink

Am I correct though, that he seems to have been influenced by NT Wright and his NPP?

shrug I can't tell from what you shared. Perhaps? "Hebraic-hermeneutical method" should be a clue? But not having read some of N.T. Wright's books in over 35 years, I'm not surprised if I don't recognize a give-away phrase as belonging to him (Wright) I do remember reading about 1/2 way through one of his books I bought out of curiosity and never finished it. I'll be kind and say I was not impressed. evilgrin

The reason why I thought of NT Wright, is because although like you I have not read a lot of his writing. What i do remember is him stating that most theologians do not consider the Hebrew mindset when they interpret Scripture. Unless I am mistaken, that is what the NPP is supposedly based on.

Years ago, unfortunately a pastor I had was into reading people like NT Wright and a few others. Of course, I am a kind of person who likes to understand these kind of things. Lets just say, that was the beginning of my eventually leaving that Church.
The only good thing I have heard about NT Wright is his work in proving the resurrection; which apparently is made atheist apologists no longer use that strategy against Christian apologists. I have heard presuppostional apologists quote NT Wright on that issue; even when I know they are not fans of his. Personally, in recent years when I try not to quote people that I disagree so much with, because I don't want to be responsible for letting a trojan horse into someone's life. Sorry, I got a little off topic. wink
