The Highway Forums General Discussion Open Forum Education and the US Constution

Here is a question regarding the US Constitution.
The US is not a theocracy, so some claim that to insist the public school system include the Bible as part of what is taught is going against this fact. Unless other religions are also taught on an equal basis.
I have a problem with this; but my knowledge of the US Constitution is limited and therefore I thought I would consult people on the Highway hoping they know more about the Constitution than I do.
I am 61 years old and when I was in school, even in Canada, to a certain extent the Bible was taught in Elementary School. My parents tell me that when they went to school the Bible was taught a lot more than when I went to School.
If you know something that would fill in the blanks for me; it would be appreciated.

1. The Constitution forbids the government to ESTABLISH a religion. It does not forbid Bibles from being brought into a public school. The government cannot promote one religion over another. But the government cannot forbid the teaching of any particular religion academically, e.g., "Comparative Religion" class. Or, to use the Bible in a literature class, etc. Understand? The Constitution guarantees "freedom of religion". As with the other items in the "Bill of Rights", government is limited and forbidden to restrict or deny ANY of the freedoms guaranteed. IF, e.g., Islam, a religion promotes the killing of anyone who does not embrace it, the government can take criminal violation(s) action.

Thankyou. That is close to my understanding; yet I did not want to say something I was not sure about.

It occurred to me that I probably know more about the US Constitution than I do the Canadian Constitution. Yet, I know both are being threatened.
Looking at the Canadian Constitution, it is very similar the US Constitution when it comes to the freedom of religion.
