If Saddam is convicted what should be his sentence? In reality we probably will not have some/most of the sentences available in the current situation. But, this is just a poll to see where we stand personally.

If you select "Release to Someone else" or, "Death by Some Other Means," please explain. Of course, feel free to explain your other answers as well.

What to do With Saddam ?

I say he should be handed over to the Iraqis. Likely they'll give him a harsher punishment than we . . .

If I were judge and jury, though, I would probably go with death by hanging.

CovenantInBlood

I would agree with you here, however I would make sure that justice was served. In other words if the Iraqi's somehow wanted to let him go, I wouldn't let it happen.

Tom

To release him to the Iraqis leaves too great a threat of his escape or return to power.

I say stick to historical method. Try him at the Hauge under the charge of war crimes and crimes against humanity. Sentence should be death by hanging. We tried the Nazis at Nuremburg, we did not hand them back over to the Germans. I see no reason to do such a thing now.

The Hague has changed since WWII. Do you think they'd even mete out a death sentence?

And beyond that, the Germans as a people were complicit in the whole Nazi affair. I don't think it was the same case in Iraq.

I believe his trial will be in Iraq and he will be given the death sentence . The case may last for several years.

I say we hand him over to the Iraqis. If they put him to death, no one can blame it on the West (unless those to whom he is handed over are viewed as Western puppets.). But I hope they do not put him to death. If they do then it will be considered an honorable death to those who hate the West-- and he will become a martyr, fueling too many fires.

This guy spreads mess whatever happens to him. The best solution would be for him to be in Iraqi hands and die in a freak, humiliating accident.

We should also pray for the man regardless.

Of course. It would be best if he repents before he meets Justice without Mercy.
