John,

Boy..... that's a toughy. Canada in general and Vancouver in particular has very few truly Christian churches, if you know what I mean, Vern?

I know of one in Chilliwack, B.C., but it is about an 1 1/2 hour drive east of Vancouver, Heritage Reformed Church.

And, there used to be at least one Reformed Baptist Church in Burnaby, but unfortunately, it has been years since I have been in contact with anyone associated with that congregation. Personally, I wouldn't set foot in 99.99% of the "churches" in the Vancouver area. ....

Ooooooh, there is another church just on the outskirts of Vancouver, here: Vancouver Associated Presbyterian Church. This congregation holds to exclusive psalmody and no instrumentation, which may be something to consider. When I lived closer, I used to attend there when Douglas Beattie was pastor.

Pilgrim,

Thanks. I do know what you mean about finding good churches nowadays; it's often not easy. I'll pass along the Vancouver Associated Presbyterian Church link to my friend. She doesn't really have a good source of transportation, so anywhere too far outside of Vancouver will probably be out of the question.

The PCA Directory gives 2 chuches in Vancouve.

Faith Presbyterian 2581 East 45th Ave www.faithvan.com

Grace Vancouver meeting address: 4850 Windsor St www.gracevancouver.com

Other cities in British Columbia are Agassiz, Surrey, Vernon, and Victoria with PCa chuches (don't know if they are suburbs of Vancouver or not. Victoria is across the water.)

John,

FYI, I am unfortunately familiar with "Faith Presbyterian". It is one of "those" which I would recommend avoiding like the plague. I am not familiar with "Grace Vancouver". BUT..... IF it is typical of PCA churches in B.C., then it too would not be a viable option. However, I am NOT saying that it is.... just that IF it is typical. Taking a brief look at their website and particularly this page: Anatomy of a Worship Service, I personally wouldn't bother attending.

The other cities you mentioned vary in distance from Vancouver, but none are suburbs and thus would require extended driving times. Victoria would be prohibitive just from the financial standpoint as one would have to pay for the Ferry and other transportation to and from the Ferry.

St Timothy’s
In the almost three years since St Timothy's was formed so much has been achieved. Started by faithful, visionary members of 3 Anglican congregations on the North Shore, St Timothy's has become a church family with a commitment to Mission (Go); Fellowship (Gather); Discipleship (Grow); Ministry (Give); and Worship (Glorify), our so called 5 G's. We meet in the Lynn Valley Recreation Centre, which is a beautiful setting for worship and praise. Our Prayer Book Services combine a mixture of ancient and contemporary worship, to help all the members of the family praise God in their own way. Lively preaching from our clergy, who uses various types of visual aids to help understanding, is developing our love for and knowledge of the Bible. With a passionate and committed leadership team and a sense of purpose among us, we feel poised to take the good news of the glorious gospel to the people of the North Shore.

I know of this church and Rolf is a true man of God. When I attended there for a weekend conference, I was impressed even though he was quite annoyed with my paedobaptism. This was about 7 years ago. From my past experience I would say that this would be a postive recommendation.

This church and the others listed under the Anglican heading are "typical", IMHO, i.e., contemporary, emergent, seeker-friendly, ad nauseam. Of course, IF this is what one finds "attractive" then they would be something to consider.
