I've started to post J.C. Ryles commentary on Matthew on my blog and It just occured to me that I have no idea what English translation it is. I get it from Gracegems.org and I assume that it is the same version found in the published book by Banner of Truth. The Gospel of MATTHEW by by J. C. Ryle, 1856.Now I know that the only English translation Ryle had to work with at the time of the writing was the KJV. The Revised Version of the KJV wasn't created until 1881. But I don't know if this commentary has been changed and an updated English version used. Well I've tried to match the versus to the KJV,ERV,ASV,NASB,NKJV,ESV,NIV,RSV and a couple more and none of these match. So I'm thinking that this has got to be Ryle's own translation from the original Greek, but I would like to hear your opinions, because it's very good. If it is off of an English translation, I want to know which one. Any help would be most appriciated, thanks. Y.B.I.C, Dave.
Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified. - Galatians 2:16
