Actually, my church had a Sunday night service and the teacher who was preaching began by saying "Nothing is going on tonight that matters, right, save for the worship of God!" We had our usual Sunday evening number of people too!
An interesting article ("Where were you at halftime?":
True godliness is a sincere feeling which loves God as Father as much as it fears and reverences Him as Lord, embraces His righteousness, and dreads offending Him worse than death~ Calvin
I greeted some of my friends at church Sunday night with a "welcome to the gathering of the unAmerican bigots who do not bow down to the elongated spheroid."
At least one church here (and probably a number of others in the US) cancelled Sunday evening worship to have the game on their big screens. If they blacked out the half time for some gospel presentation, did it last long enough to cover the finale?
When the church tries to attract the world, they will get the world!

Amen! I've never understood the concept of having a "Superbowl Evangelism Party" in a church. Why use the World's tool as a tool of ministry ever? I mean what are we going to say?
"just like that bone crunching tackle done by Houserman so to Jesus tackles our sins at the cross and brings them down!" What nonsense!
