How would you counsel a woman whose husband is anti-Calvinist and very Dispensational. He has also a lot of seminary training. The woman wants to respect and honour her husband. Yet, the more she studies Scripture the more she believes Calvinism is true. Of late, she has been studying eschatology and has become convinced Dispensationalism is error. However, her husband is now saying he is very concerned about her studying heresy; which he claims all other positions except Dispensationalism are. She feels stuck between a rock and a hard place.
By the way, I am not personally trying to counsel this woman. She is crying out for help on another board similar to this one.

How would I counsel this woman? I would prefer to do it directly, with Scripture in hand and as a compassionate older woman. You say that you are not counseling her, so what is it you are trying to accomplish.

Good question. As you noticed I was reluctant to counsel her mainly because i do know that the Lord has made her husband the head of the home. Yet, seeing she obviously wants counsel; I would like to give her at least some sort of wisdom in how to handle the situation.
First of all, I would like to know if she needs to obey her husband and stop studying, what he believes is heresy? The only real thing I can say to her, is to spend a lot of time with the Lord praying and studying His Word. Beyond that can I say anything else?

The biblical principle of "authority" and the believer's relationship with/to it certainly applies here too, i.e., the relationship of wife to husband (Eph 5:22-24; Col 3:18). The wife is to give respect and obey her husband in all things under this principle:
1. Obey all things which are not forbidden by God's commandments as found in Scripture. 2. Reject all things which are contrary to God's commandments.
Thus in greatly simplified form... this woman must reject her husband's theology where it is contrary to sound biblical doctrine. She is not allowed to continually argue with her husband but to keep silent after the differences have been clearly voiced. (cf. 1Cor 7:10-16; 1Tim 2:9-15; 1Pet 3:1,5,6). She must continue to study God's Word (Jh 8:31,32; Acts 14:22; Col 1:21-23) and live according to the truth found therein in peace if at all possible.

Pilgrim Thank you, completely inline with how I was thinking.
