Not too long ago; I was listening to a Reformed theologian (can’t remember who).
He said something that he never fleshed out and I was wondering if someone could flesh it out a bit more.

[quote]Dispensationalism and Covenantalism are two different hermeneutical systems[\quote]

I understand the differences between CT and Dispensationalism.
However I have never thought of it in terms like that.
For example there are Calvinist Dispis and Calvinist CT.
When it comes to soteriology, they obviously have the same hermeneutic, to come to the same conclusions.

Am I overthinking this?

Tom

Yes, Classical Dispensationalism (no logical biblical basis) and Progressive Dispensationalism (inconsistent with biblical Reformed Theology) both have "different hermeneutical systems" than Covenant Theology.

One of my former profs who taught Greek and Hermeneutics has an article on The Highway which is albeit fundamental, shows the core difference and error of the Dispensational hermeneutic. You can access the article here: What is Literal Interpretation. There are other salient articles on the website too in the Calvinism and the Reformed Faith > Eschatology section.

Another article on the hermeneutical principle which the Scriptures themselves teach and must be what everyone should learn and adopt without hesitation nor deviance is by J.I. Packer which you can find here: The Interpretation of Scripture.
