I have little doubt that we will be seeing MUCH more of this type of thing which is reported here in the New York Post: 'JESUS' NAIL SALE .

I think there's a business opportunity here somewhere How do you set up a nail factory?

All we need now is for the Pope to give an indulgence to everyone who goes to see it.

Don't think it will happen Steve after all Gibson's pre-Vatican 2 so I'm not sure he recognizes the bishop of Rome as Pope. Besides after that Tetzel fiasco I'm thinking chocolates is a better choice. I can see it now chocolate indulgences hand made by the monks of the Swiss Alps. Good to eat and good for one minute out of purgatory.

I hadn't even thought about the sale of products that follow movies. This is sad. Next they'll probably be casting lots for his garments in the parking lot or selling replicas of the Shroud of Turin.

But wait, folks! That's not all!

Excerpts:

Quote
"Bob Siemon Designs, producer of millions of WWJD (What Would Jesus Do?) bracelets, is selling 'Passion' lapel pins, key rings and inch-long nail pendants. Already, it has distributed 1 million 'Passion' witness cards, inscribed with scriptural verses, said Dwight Robinson, a spokesman for the Santa Ana., Calif.-based company.

"The Christian Booksellers Association screened the film Feb. 5 at a meeting in Indianapolis, and displays of 'Passion'-related books, jewelry, artwork and other items have begun appearing in member stores. The CBA Web site proclaims 'Gibson’s Film May Be a Precursor to Revival.' . . .

"Icon also has granted licenses for 'Passion'-related merchandise, including a 160-page coffee-table book of movie stills, film-related framed art, and the International Bible Society’s New Testament with images from the movie."

Thanks for another informative post.

What this film will no doubt produce though the instrumentality of 10 million little "soul winners" out there running around handing out "Passion" tracts with the "Sinner's Prayer on the back" is a mass of people who have nothing more than a false profession of faith and to whom the contemporary church will happily assure them of their salvation.

It is folks like us who are going to bear the burden of undoing what Satan and his 10 million little minions have succeeded in doing in conjunction with this film. It brings back those horrid memories of when I worked with the Billy Graham Crusades. To be perfectly honest, I have never totally been able to get rid of the guilt I bear for having taken part in that deception and seeing people falsely led to believe that they were saved and all was well with their soul when in fact they had never been regenerated.

May God have mercy upon us all!

In His Grace,

The night after this movie was released, I was sitting in class and heard someone across the room tell another that this movie was the "best g.d. movie" he's ever seen. sad. that's all i have to say about that...

I'm afraid there is a great deal more truth in that statement than he realizes. Think about it.

I just learned tonight that my unsaved cousin and her boyfriend went to see the movie. My cousin said her main impression was that it was way too gory. She also said she thought it detracted from the "emotional impact" it otherwise would have had on her. My grandmother said she'd seen a sign that said "Read the Book...it's much better." I then told my cousin that the movie had Catholic imagery in it, to which my unbelieving uncle said "Yeah, added to the Jewish imagery."

Of course, I could have outlined the entire book of Hebrews, but my uncle wouldn't have been listening.

My point is that even nonbelievers are going to get an emotional buzz. And the bloodiness of it appears to be distracting rather than beneficial.

I wonder if taking a nonbeliever to see Luther would be a better option... But that movie did not get much press nor much comment from the churches. That was a shame!

oh yeah, i haven't seen the movie, and have pretty much decided that i won't. nonetheless, even though i was saddened by the response of soemof the local churches to the movie, statements like that add to the sadness.
