Its too bad that Kirk Cameron couldn't have an hour of just teaching instead of interspersing it with songs and other stuff that wasn't so relevant but I suppose the "tbn" owners would have a conniption fit. (Fred) Yes, I wish Kirk had more time with MacArthur. I was pleased that Kirk asked him some leading questions that gave Mac the opportunity to blast the health and wealth gospel message that is daily paraded across that network. Oddly, the audience applauded a lot of what John said, especially the parts where he said Jesus never guarantees anyone health and wealth in this world, and that the call of the gospel is to deny self and potentially die for Christ. That was unexpected coming from a largely charismatic audience. It was also the first time I saw anyone open up a Bible and read it, which I believe was probably intentional on John's part. John also did a good job of involking Church History, especially the Reformers; John Calvin was mentioned on several occasions along with Martin Luther and John Bunyan. Kirk was a little annoying with his gushing remarks concerning John's preaching and his constant use of the word "wow" in response to many of John's comments. It reminded me of Chris Farely's old skits on SNL where he plays an incompotent geek who stammers through interviews with major celebrities. I imagine, though, that Kirk was nervous for hosting a program like that all by himself, as well as interviewing one of his spiritual heroes. Once John got to rolling, Kirk loosened up a bit. The folks we were with hung through the remainder of the program and we listened to his interview with Steve Chapman, which was also well done. He had a lot of good things to say as well. Steve is also a solid believer and one of the few respectable and theologically correct CCM performers. Fred
