Not that it really is an insult. It just sounds like something the world would say to us as an "insult", like, "You are so legalistic, you are Leviticus."

Of course, we know that legalism does not mean "obeying everything God has commanded of us and not doing all those things that God forbids." That's devotion to God and His Word! I see legalism as adding to those things God has commanded us to do, or it's trying to be made right before God by works.
