I don't own an NIV study Bible, but I do have the S.O.R.S.B. and on page 25 as you indicated is the classic reformed orthodox view of covenant theology, In my humble opinion. I for one have really enjoyed all the notes in my Spirit of the reformation study Bible, even if I don't actually use the NIV text. I think that when you read about all the contributors who were involved with this Bible, you will agree that Pratt and the rest put together very sound theological notes that truly represent historic reformed doctrine.

So with saying that, I haven’t actually read “God of Promise” but I do own it and I have skimmed through it. I can tell you that he quotes from a lot of prominent historical reformed theologians. From what I can see everything looks to be pretty inline with classic reformed covenant theology. So I would be surprised if it deviated from what we see in the Spirit of the Reformation Study Bible.

But until I read it, I can’t say for sure. I am also no way in any condition to give you a valid opinion on classic reformed covenant theology. But because I own the S.O.R.S.B. and Horton’s book, I though I would at least give you my opinion based on what I’ve seen so far. I do know that it has been recommended by other reformed believers so, I’m not sure If I’m going to be too skeptical on this one. I’ve enjoyed everything I’ve read by Horton…. Even if he tends to be a little too apologetic for my taste. But I am still looking forward to reading this book…. Although, it is going to be awhile, I’m still in the middle of “More then Conquerors” by Hendriksen, which I’m totally lov’n.
