Consider the following:


1 Timothy 5:23 "Drink no longer water, but use a little wine for thy stomach's sake and thine often infirmities." (If drinking wine (alcohol) is sin, then Paul just counseled Timothy to sin and that as a young pastor.)

Titus 1:7 "For a bishop must be blameless, as the steward of God; not selfwilled, not soon angry, not given to wine, no striker, not given to filthy lucre;" (here the optimum phrase is "not given to", i.e., addicted to drinking wine (alcohol). cf. Eph 5:18; 1Tim 3:3, 8; Titus 2:3
