Doubtless, there are many reasons why such men deviate from the clear teaching of Scripture. Here are a few of those reasons which sit at the top of my personal list:
  1. The need for something different or new.
  2. The desire for notoriety/fame and perhaps for some, fortune.
  3. An over-emphasis and thus distortion of God's love.
  4. A de-emphasis or even ignoring of God's holy hatred, wrath, and justice.
  5. Attempts to make the Gospel more 'palatable' and/or 'culturally relevant'.
  6. The desire for 'numbers'; large quantity of alleged conversions.
