It is not like I dont want to finish reading them. Problem comes while reading and then I read something in one and it puzzles me, I read on that from other books I have and dont go back to where I started.
Well I can certainly sympathize, however if you continue reading the systematic "inspiration" may come and assist what was puzzling before. Just a thought.
Some are harder to read than others. Bavinck in my opinion is harder than Calvin.
Part of the challenge of reading STs is understanding where the author was trained and how he thinks. Bavinck is one of the most balanced Reformed theologians Holland ever produced. It was he that said;
Quote
Religion, the fear of God, must therefore be the element which inspires and animates all theological investigation. That must be the pulsebeat of the science. A theologian is a person who makes bold to speak about God because he speaks out of God and through God. To profess theology is to do holy work. It is a priestly ministration in the house of the Lord. It is itself a service of worship, a consecration of mind and heart to the honour of His name.
Reformed theologians owe a large debt to him, including VanTil and Berkhof. Bavinck introduced the notion of organic inspiration of the Scriptures and also developed a solution to the infra/supralapsarian challenge. He is worth your investment and time as to how he thinks, et. al.
Do you think with the way it seems the way the church has moved away from teaching theology that there will not be as many well written books in the future?

We rush through our worship services now attempting to keep them to 1-1.5 hours in length and wonder why our people are so theologically ignorant! Of course, the Church and its leadership are not the only ones to be blamed here as each of us has a personal responsibility to study to show ourselves approved ...
IMO the older titles for the most part are richer, however, there are still a few good new titles being offered today (the content of which for the most part can be found in the older titles).
