If Jonathan Edwards were to hear about this supposed great great granddaughter who became a preacher and performed marriages for same sex couples he'd probably roll over in his grave.
If there's one thing that Jonathan Edwards understood very well it's that God is holy and cannot tolerate sin. Women pastors and same sex couples deny God's plan for leadership in the church and the sacredness of marriage between a man and a women.

"Heir" of Jonathan Edwards, right! She's as much a legitimate heir to Edwards as Ishmael was to Abraham.
Edwards was not driven to preach to the Mohicans out of a perverse need to provide acceptance for sinful behaviors; he was driven to preach to the Mohicans by the compulsion of God's word, which proclaims that the Gospel is to be preached to the ends of the earth and to the peoples of all nations! You can be sure that Edwards didn't preach that the sinful idolatry of the Mohicans ought to be embraced.

John,
I gave a lecture in Febuary on Edwards and Finney and during the Q&A session this one lady just went on and on about the geneology of the Edwards family. Seemed to be under the impression that there was some sort of Theological royalty passed down the blood-line. I wonder what she would have thought of this descendent?
Truth is Edwards always had some difficulties with some of his relatives. Most of his opposition in Northhampton over the communion controversy came from kinfolks. Carried over to Stockbridge as well. His grandson became the third Vice President but he is remembered more as a duelist than as a Christian.
As for Finney--let me sum my view of him up for you like so--

You can be sure that Edwards didn't preach that the sinful idolatry of the Mohicans ought to be embraced. I have never heard any accusations that Edwards preached that the idolatry of the Mohicans ought to be embraced. But as to the truth of the matter, I have read Edwards sermon 'Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God' and with that in mind, I doubt very much that Edwards preached that the idolatry of the Mohicans ought to be embraced. Tom, This is from the link that John gave in the initial post. Nearly 265 years after her legendary fire-and-brimstone forebear delivered his historic sermon warning of hell's horrors, a Squirrel Hill clergywoman is under church scrutiny for joining two women in marriage. The Rev. Janet Edwards, 55, likens performing the ceremony to her famously orthodox ancestor, Jonathan Edwards, preaching to the Mohicans in the 18th century, when racism made Native Americans the object of scorn and fear.
"I would say his acceptance of the Mohicans of the time is similar to my inclusion of gay-lesbian-bisexual-transgendered people now," Janet Edwards said. I think he was showing the absurdity of Ms. Edwards trying to justify her sinful ministry by appealing to Jonathan Edwards righteous ministering to the Native Americans at Stockbridge. One of the first things he did upon arriving there was to begin teaching the Indian children the Westminister shorter (children's) Catechism. Stucco

Thanks Stucco
This woman has demeaned the good name of Edward's. The mere fact that she is a preacher does that, but then comparing what she did, to what Jonathon Edwards did takes the cake. I just pray that people are not taken in by her lies and misrepresentation of Jonathon Edwards.
