The Highway Forums General Discussion Theology Discussion Forum Paul's words versus God's Word

I'm not sure how to properly address this to the forum, for I have it in pieces, but what was relayed to me is a form of doctrine that says that Paul's words are not inspired but are truly his, without any assistance from the Spirit of God that makes all scriptures inspired by the Most High, thus his words are not to be trusted but seen as words of men and not the words of God, has anyone ever encountered this form of thinking before?.. Grant it, its from one who is a pastor of a local body... thoughts.

I am re-reading ''The Authority of Scripture'' by Dr. John H. Armstrong and I will pass it on to a friend in hopes that the one who made the comment in question would examine the link and then rethink their position.

Peter would most assuredly disagree with this "pastor" and says so most clearly as he was inspired to do so by the Holy Spirit:

1. Peter mentions Paul by name...
2. Peter equates Paul's writings with the other "scriptures", which undoubtedly refers at least to the entire Old Testament which they all affirmed, including Jesus Christ, are the very words of God Himself.

It has been a looooong time since I read John Armstrong's "The Authority of Scripture", an article which appears in Sola Scriptura, published by Soli Deo Gloria. But if I remember correctly, it was good. Now, having said that, I with much sadness must also give a warning regarding John Armstrong who has departed the faith and embraced Federal Vision, at least that is the last report I have received, i.e., I have not heard that he has repented and recanted that damanable heresy. Thus, beware of the newer writings of this man.

Lastly, on The Highway website there are several excellent articles dealing with the divine inspiration and authority of Scripture. They can be found in "Calvinism and the Reformed Faith > Sola Scriptura", which includes Armstrong's article too.
