In order to hear, the sinner, deaf by nature, must receive hearing ears. He that hath ears let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.

But by nature the sinner does not belong to these favored ones. This is a daily experience. Of two clerks in the same office, one obeys the call and the other rejects it; not because he despises it, but because he does not hear Gods call in it. Hence Gods quickening act antedates the sinners hearing, and thus he becomes able to hear the Word.

In this article, Abraham Kuyper expounds on Romans 8:30 in regard to the Holy Spirit's work in regeneration. He presents common errors that are held and taught by many in regard to the individual's role in regeneration and the consequent life after regeneration. And, then he goes on to explain in some detail what regeneration consists of and its effects.

This is solidly biblical presentation and definitely one that is worthwhile reading and pondering upon.
