As most of you probably know, most of Canada’s politicians are nuts. However, there is one party leader, that sends me e-mails who I will actually be voting for. His name is Max Bernier and he is the leader of the PPC (People’s Party of Canada). At present, he does not have a chance of winning, and that is why most Canadian Christians, will be voting for the Conservative Party. I however, am not a person who votes that way. I vote for the person/party that best represents by beliefs and policies. I thought I would show you, part of Max Bernier’s last e-mail to me. Ontario premier Doug Ford tried to intimidate Donald Trump this week by announcing he would impose a 25% surcharge on electricity exports to the US.
It didn’t last long.
A few hours later, he backed down when Trump announced he would DOUBLE tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminum from 25% to 50%.

This is so silly!
Is it that difficult to understand?
WE’RE NOT GOING TO WIN A TRADE WAR WITH THE US!
We’re hurting our own economy ten times more than theirs with these silly retaliatory tariffs, and giving Trump just another pretext to escalate the dispute.
What should we do instead?
We should unilaterally stop all forms of retaliation.
Then we should take Trump at his word and tell him we accept his idea of having reciprocal tariffs, and that the best situation for both countries is therefore to lower all tariffs.
We should tell him that we’re willing to put dairy supply management on the table and get rid of the sky-high tariffs that protect this unfair system.
We should tell him that we are open to lower or eliminate any other tariffs in the context of reciprocity.
We should tell him we’re willing to reopen the North American free trade agreement and sit down right away to have a wide-ranging discussion over all these issues.
That is how to disarm the situation and find our way to a deal.
But neither Ford, nor Carney or Poilievre, will take that route.
Meanwhile, the Australians are lucky to have a prime minister who understands economics and won’t play this stupid game of retaliation.
This is what he said:
“Tariffs and escalating trade tensions are a form of economic self-harm and a recipe for slower growth and higher inflation. They are paid by the consumers. This is why Australia will not be imposing reciprocal tariffs on the United States.”
If only we had such politicians in Canada… Tom

 You should most always vote for the person most qualified for the position. As far as this tariff fiasco. Having lived in Canada for 15 years I am unequivocally qualified to speak on the issue.  I will always remember that I could not buy Wheaties cereal in Canada. I could not buy Hershey's Hot Fudge in Canada. I could not buy Peanut Butter Snickers in Canada, ad nauseam. Why? Because the Canadian government put a restriction on such items; they were not ALLOWED to be imported into Canada. The fact is, there are many items which Canada had/has imposed a 100% tariff on other items too which makes importing them cost prohibited. Magazines originating from the U.S. were not allowed to be sold in Canada unless 50%+ (that figure is from memory and might be more or less) of the advertising was for Canadian businesses. Try and buy and American made car in countries overseas. Some countries have imposed extravagant tariffs on them and some countries forbid the importation of America automobiles in that country. Reciprocal tariffs are simply FAIR business practice regardless who imposes them. Why not have any tariffs and 100% free trade?  Your chosen candidate appears to have a functioning brain in his head, at least on trade.

Yes, although I am not an American and did not know about some of the things you went through as an American living in Canada.
From my research, it actually does not surprise me. For example Canada charged the US 250% tariff on milk. Most Canadians have no idea about that.
It is extremely hard as a Canadian to get accurate news. I have told you about what happens to news agencies such as Rebel News that actually try to report unbiased news.
By the way, I am not sure you know about the way the rest of Canada is treating Alberta and especially their Premier Danielle Smith.
Alberta is probably Canada’s richest province in terms of resources, such as oil and gas. Yet, the federal government has handcuffed them.
If they are not careful, I could see Alberta taking President Trump’s offer to become the 51st State.

I remember vividly how Ralph Kline, when he was Premier of Alberta, refused to recognize Gay Marriage in that province. Immediately, the hammer came down and he was told that ALL federal funds for healthcare would be cut off unless he bowed the knee to the federal government. It didn't take long before the monies continued for healthcare. And, I also remember how Alberta discovered enormous oil deposits in the province and the federal government entered in and basically confiscated it all by fiat.
