I think a proper view of sactification encompases the positional, the progressive and the perfected.

When we are saved, we are sanctified; we are set apart by God for good purposes (eg. 1Cor 1:2, 6:11)

Following this, we pursue a holy life by our own efforts, through the power of God, seeking an evangelical obedience to our Lord's commandments, and striving to crucify the relic of the old nature that remains within our mortal bodies (Heb 12:14; John 14:15; Phil 2:12-13; Rom 6:12-14).

Finally, at the Lord's return, having left our earthly bodies in the grave, we shall also leave sin behind for ever and rejoice in the presence of God (Heb 12:22-24; 1Cor 15:49).

Blessings,
Steve
