- McCheyne due to his experimental preaching of Christ and the urgency of sinners to known Him as their Redeemer.
- Spurgeon for his eloquence and boldness to preach the truth.
- Lloyd-Jones for his ability to apply the truth of Scripture to both his congregation and his contemporaries.
- Nettleton for his fervor in evangelizing the heathen at no little cost to himself.
- Ryle also for his incredible ability expound and then to apply the whole counsel of God in an endearing and enduring manner.
