Gilda,<br><br>I'm glad you liked it. I, myself, have been blessed by the many quotes that everyone has posted. The one by Thomas boston that Gotribe uses has really gripped my heart. <br><br><br>In Christ alone,<br>Carlos
"Let all that mind...the peace and comfort of their own souls, wholly apply themselves to the study of Jesus Christ, and him crucified"(Flavel)
I know what you mean. But, why would anyone believe even an "apparent" contradiction unless he were insane?<br><br>I would add further, and this might stimulate some discussion, that the Bible contains no contradictions, even apparent, and no antinomies (which is just a nice way of saying "contradiction").<br><br>I'm afraid your "man," A.W., is confused. Sorry.<br><br>Blessings,<br>LEJ
Gee, it's nice to know that there are no "apparent" ones--We have just eliminated the Calvinism, Arminian, Baptist, Charismatic etc etc understandings, and there will be no more theological controverseries. <br> I had the Privilege, and I do mean privilege of hearing Tozer speak on several occassions. I have read almost everything he wrote. He is one of the few people with a Calvinist bent who let the truths therein go from his brain on into his heart. Would to God that the average Calvinist that I have met could say the same. I believe I would put RC Sproul in Tozers group.
Dear Gnarley,<br><blockquote><font size=1>In reply to:</font><hr>[color:"blue"]there are no "apparent" ones</font><hr></blockquote><p><br>No, I didn't write that there are no apparent contradictions. I wrote that it is insane to believe, even apparent, contradictions. What we are called to do is reconcile the apparent contradiction, knowing that the Bible contains NO contradictions, to the best of our ability. Due to the noetic effects of sin, however, we very frequently fail in our endeavors at reconciling the scriptural information that appears to be contradictory.<br><br>Blessings,<br>LEJ
Carlos, I remembered reading a quote that was really good in one of Francis Schaeffer's books a long time ago. I looked a long time for it, but couldn't find it anywhere until today when my son mentioned reading it and told me where it was. It was in The God Who is There.
If I profess with the loudest voice and clearest exposition every portion of the truth of God except precisely that little point which the world and the devil are at that moment attacking, I am not confessing Christ, however boldly I may be professing Christ. Where the battle rages, there the loyalty of the soldier is proved, and to be steady on all the battlefield besides, is mere flight and disgrace if he flinches at that point.-- Martin Luther
One of, if not my favorite quote, is from Gordon Clark.
The liberals accuse the Lutherans and Calvinists of worshipping a book instead of worshipping God. Apparently they think that we genuflect to the Bible on the pulpit, and they deride us for kissing the ring of a paper pope.
I found this one in this month's issue of modern reformation
"God has not taken pleasure in numbers. For nothing is more magnificient in God's sight as pure doctrine, and a soul perfected in the dogmas of truth."
-Gregory of Nazianzus, fourth century church father
I like Piper's quote “God is most glorified in us when we are most satisfied in Him…”<br>JOHN PIPER, Future Grace<br><br>It is short, to the point and memorable, which suits someone like me.<br>Tom
Ah, thank you, I liked those quotes, too.<br><br>I was going to add this quote by a less Reformed source but refrained: "You see a lot of smart guys with dumb women, but you hardly ever see a smart woman with a dumb guy." Erica Jong <br><br>Does your preference for 'short' and 'sweet' apply to women, too?<br><br><br>Sue
I really shouldn't be speaking for Tom but sometimes I just can't help but replying to a post. I do believe Tom's answer was with regard to his preference for concise and easy to understand quotes.
"Does your preference for 'short' and 'sweet' apply to women, too?"<br><br>How about if I answer that this way, my wife is about 5' 8" and most of the time I think she is sweet.<br><br>Tom
