Perhaps I am just exceedingly "thick." Have I missed something? Am I singled out for special treatment? My invitation, below, was sent from jforjesus, one of our members!
'I would like to extend to you an invitation to join our small but vibrant Bible Discussion Community. We are currently accepting new members. Looking forward to seeing you there.'
As an Administrator of this Board, I am very interested in knowing who else received one of these "invitations". And could you please indicate how you received it; via a PM or e-mail.
Ehud said: Mine came through my hotmail account a few weeks back. I guess I have that address listed in my bio.
It isn't in your "bio". One of the security features implemented on this Board is "hidden e-mail addresses". So even if you have the option to have your e-mail address publicly displayed in your Personal Preferences, it is still automatically hidden. In everyone's Profile is a link: [color:"red"]Email this user[/color] that allows someone to e-mail them but the actual e-mail address is never displayed and is secure. The only way the sender can know what your actual e-mail address is if you reply to the message they sent.
I also received one of these invitations, though I did not respond to it. It went as followed:
"I would like to extend to you an invitation to join our small but vibrant Bible Discussion Community. We are currently accepting new members. Looking forward to seeing you there.

Henry,
NOOoooooooooo! Nothing has been hacked!! I have already explained that here: My reply to Ehud. When a person clicks on the link in your Profile, "Email this user", it is an inhouse form and there is no e-mail address displayed. Nor is there anyway that the e-mail address can be retrieved. The ONLY way someone can get your e-mail address is if you reply to the e-mail received. It's the same truth that applies to . Many people make the painful mistake of replying to spam e-mail, e.g., clicking on a link to have their e-mail address taken off their lists. This is nothing more than a deception for by replying to the e-mail or clicking on that link, you are revealing to the spammer that there really is someone associated to that random e-mail address and thus you have verified your presence. Then they have you!
My own personal policy and I commend it to everyone on this Board, is that if you don't know the person who sends you e-mail, don't reply. If the person claims to be a member here, check the User List, PM me and ask about this person, etc. Unsolicited invitations are just that.... and should be treated as such, IMHO.
