Where is the verse that teaches that a Christian should be highly regarded by all man. It is not the one in 1 Timothy 3. I cannot find it.
In today's culture, where the Christian is often maligned, how would we apply it in confronting the culture?

John C,
I'm not sure why you want to eliminate I Timothy 3. I Timothy 3 gives us a list of the qualifications for overseers in the church. Verses 1-7 discusses bishops, while 8-13 refers to deacons. In verse 7 we read, a bishop "must have a good testimony among those who are outside, lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil." It's interesting how Paul's focus is on the character of the man, and his reputation both inside and outside the church.
Why do you want to eliminate I Timothy 3?

I'm not eliminating 1 Timothy 3:7. But, I don't think that is the verse that I'm thinking of.

John
Are you looking for a verse that goes something like: "...even your enemies will be at peace with you."
That is just from memory and at the moment I can't find that particular verse. So it is possible I am misquoting the verse.

Tom,
I don't know if that's what John is looking for, but that's Proverbs 16:7.
"When a man's ways please the LORD, He makes even his enemies to be at peace with him."

John, Could you possibly be thinking of Acts 2:47?

John C,
How about Proverbs 3:3-4?
"Let not mercy and truth forsake you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart, and so find favor and high esteem in the sight of God and man."

Wes,
You beat me to that one! <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/bananas.gif" alt="" /> That's what I thought of when I read John's question!

Ruth,
I just stumbled onto that verse today at dinner. We were reading from Proverbs 3 in our family devotions and it hit me that maybe that was the verse that John was looking for.
I'm glad you thought of it too. Now let's see if that's what John wanted.

Thanks, now I know why I couldn't find it.
I thought it was a NT verse. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" />

Thanks for all the troubleshooting, but the verse I'm thinking of is in the NT. It might be the 1 Timothy 3:7 verse, but I didn't think it was in the section about officers. None of my concordances are helping, even Cruden's.
Sorry, about sending you on a goose chase. If I run into it, I will post.
