This New Perpective Heresy seems to be infecting many. Even now the Discerning Reader is speaking positively of N.T. Wright's writings: While we realize that this book has raised many questions regarding Tom Wright's "orthodoxy", we find his critics just don't "get it." True, he is not content to simply echo the formulations of the Reformers . . . but what he offers is sound, Biblical teaching. Don't be swayed by those who are uncomfortable with exegesis that goes beyond mere tradition: Tom Wright has something to say to us. In fact, few contemporary authors share his profound vision of what the Gospel Paul proclaimed really is. This is a must read . . . but for true, discerning readers. discerningreader.com

I heard about this on another board. Apparently the Discerning Reader used to agree whole heartedly with James White on his critique on NPP, but now they have retracted it. If you are interested in reading about this, please go to reformedreader.org to the open forum discussion. Tom

I was reading through the linked thread at thereformedreader and there is a lot of mention about the ECT controversy? But the thread doesn't really give any details. What is the ECT controvery?
I'm not too familiar with thediscerningreader, but if they are embracing NPP when they once did not, it's a little sad. Especially since it seems like a site whose opinions are likely to influence Christians who shop there. I'm impressed with their selection of books though. It seems like a very good resource.

Thanks Joe,
Those are some good links. The last link talks a good bit about the Catholic idea of "infusion of Christ's righteousness", but it does not really explain what exactly it is. Just based on the wording it seems to indicating that we are made righteous before God when we accept Christ through faith because somehow Christ's righteousness is united with us thus allowing us to do good works. This is in opposition to the truth that our righteousness before God is really Christ's righteousness which is imputed to us and is based on Christ's perfect life, death, and resurrection. Is my idea of about the meaning of "infusions of Christ's righteousness" correct? I'm just guessing.

John, The distinction between the RCC's " infused" righteousness and the Protestant's " imputed" righteousness is simply this: The RCC teaches that the righteousness of Christ actually becomes that of the believer. In short, the believer working by "grace" can actually do works which are righteous and which are accounted to the person toward their eventual justification. Contrariwise, Protestantism teaches that the righteousness of Christ is accredited to the believer only. This righteousness is an "alien" righteousness, i.e., it remains outside, apart from the believer and it is upon this alien righteousness which God declares judicially that the believer IS righteous at the very moment faith takes hold of Christ. Luther's famous utterance of simul iustus et peccator really puts it clearly; i.e., "at the same time righteous and sinner". For more detailed information regarding this topic see these: In His Grace,
simul iustus et peccator
