What would someone mean by the following statement?

"I don't believe in the Trinity, but I believe in the Triune God."

Tom,

I would think you would have to ask that person to explain themselves!!!!!!! We could not begin to guess what "they" meant.

Unfortunately I lost contact with this person.
I do know that this person is a former pastor (Mennonite?), who also told me that "Trinity" and "Triune" do not mean the same thing.
When I gave him information showing these words being used interchangeably, I didn't get a response.

Oh well just as well; it was more a matter of curiosity than anything else.

I obviously cannot speak for someone else on this matter, but if I was to speculate my answer would be that this person believed that God has three personalities instead of the Scriptural account of God in three persons. Though the language is similar, the difference is massive. If this person denies the latter, they are in dire need of correction and guidance.

Just a guess though.

All I can say is that the material I gave him was very clear about the Trinity. It not only gave Scripture to support it, but it also gave a brief history of the doctrine through out the history of the Church.

The reason I gave him this information, was because he said he was interested in what I believed about the Trinity.
Although he did not respond to it, I do know that it should have been adequate for any correction and guidance he may have needed. I put a lot of time into the material, so I would represent the doctrine of the Trinity properly.
