a minister named Alexander. I'm not sure about the first name, but it might be Eric. However, Eric seems to faddish and new for a prominent Pastor. The minister of the church I visited last Sunday mentioned Alexander as being an excellent preacher in his sermon.
Yet, I have never heard of Alexander.

Eric Alexander is a Reformed pastor in Scotland. He preached at Southern a few years back, and it was excellent (I wasn't there in person, but I did listen to the sermons online.

John,
Like Marie, I have also heard Eric Alexander once or twice, at a Philadelphia Conference of Reformed Theology several years back, and remember solid, reformed, vibrant exposition.
There is also John Alexander, formerly head of InterVarsity, who I remember speaking at Urbana in the early 80's, but I would guess Eric is the one you heard of.

Thanks Marie and Paul. I'm sure he is the one referenced in the sermon.

I'm just chortling at the idea of the (retired) Eric Alexander being described as faddish!
He's a great man of God and an excellent preacher.
In Christ,
James.

James: I think he was unsure of the first name and was questioning whether "Eric" was correct since he thought it was a rather new and faddish type of name for an old and prominent pastor. Right...John?

I not only have heard of Eric Alexander, I actually know the guy. He was the keynote speaker at my seminary graduation. A few years prior to then, he preached at our Church on John 10. It was probably one of the best messages I have ever heard on eternal security. Like James, I also responded with a snorty chuckle when I read of him being describe as "faddish." The passenger, Bubba, said; "Lookey thar up ahead, Earl, it's a police roadblock!! We're gonna get busted fer drinkin' these here beers!!"
"Don't worry, Bubba," Earl said. "We'll just pull over and finish drinkin' these beers then peel off the label and stick it on our foreheads, and throw the bottles under the seat."
"What fer?," asked Bubba.
"Just let me do the talkin', OK?," said Earl.
Well, they finished their beers, threw the empties out of sight & put label on each of their foreheads. When they reached the roadblock, the sheriff said, "You boys been drinkin'?"
"No, sir," said Earl while pointing at the labels. "We're on the patch."

John: "Eric" was number 21 out of the top 40 names for children born in 1970....the year my son was born. David...was number 2...my sons name...so I guess David could be "faddish" also! "James" number 4....and "Fred"...not even on the list!! http://www.charm.net/~shack/name/historic.htmlDave
