Long time no see.

IMO, the correct identification and meaning of words like axiom, presupposition and logical fallacy should certainly be taught to public school children as soon as possible. However questions about subjects such as atheistic evolution should be referred by the teacher to father/mother, priest/minister or the library. The rules should carry sanction for violation just as the present rules forbid corporate prayer.

I believe that you are quite right in that philosophical theory imposed upon 7th graders (as evolution was in my case), is improper. The trouble is that standards should be established as to what is scientific theory and what is philosophical/religious. Atomic theory, for example, is well within the scientific realm as it does not normally impose the morality of a philosophical or religious world view.

It is my belief that the public schools, outside of the public universities, should only prepare the student for the moral, religious/philosophical questions that are sure to come with educational maturity. In other words the public schools should teach only "reading, writing and 'rithmitic", along with a hopefully unbiased and un-revisionist history.

These, I know, are very strict guidlines but unfortunately point out the fallacy, inadequacy and practical limitations of a public school education in the first place.

These are my thoughts and opinions but to continue this probably deserves a new thread.

In my opinion trying to find common ground between creationism and evolutionism is like mixing oil and water and hoping it will blend together. They just don’t mix! If you accept evolution you will simply have problems with accepting what the Bible has to say. Conversely if you hold to the biblical account of creation you will simply see that evolution requires you to deny what the Bible teaches.

Some people have suggested “theistic evolution” is a possible answer to appease both sides. However, even this view requires you to deny the first few books of the Bible and Jesus’ references to Genesis. I’m sorry, but creation and redemption are not compatible with evolution. No matter how you cut it, you can’t find common ground!

One of the big problems I see is the fact that in many families today, they have neglected to teach their children what they should.
Up until recently I was a school custodian for 16 years who talked to a lot of teachers. They tell me of heart ache stories of children they have taught over the years.
Unfortunately, in the attempt to help these children schools have tried to take up the slack that parents have neglected.
Most teachers would rather teach things like reading writing and arithmetic, but say they are left with no choice but to teach thing that should be left to parents.
Unfortunately, this has caused as many problems as it has attempted to solve.
What we see in our schools today is a direct reflection of society.

I have also been told by a few teachers over the years, just how much they appreciate parents who don't reject their parental responsibilities. For the most part, their children are a pleasure to teach.
In British Columbia right now, the illegal strike that is happening by the teachers is caused in some respects by some of the things that teachers have been made to teach.
I know many a teacher, who are long time teachers who say that their job is a lot harder than it was back in their early teaching days.
