It made the news here: Many churches are closing for Christmas. How about yours?

Nope. Our's isn't closing.

Our church is having service and we'll be there.
Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified. - Galatians 2:16

Maybe they are closing in order to catch their breath in protesting the changing from Merry Christmas to Winter Holidays (or Happy Holidays).
Although I was out of town last Sunday and haven't seen the church's schedule, I would be surprised and disappointed if my church cancelled the Sunday service on Christmas Day.

No, we are not going to neglect the assembling of ourselves together on Sunday, Dec. 25. Sad that it even has to be asked!
True godliness is a sincere feeling which loves God as Father as much as it fears and reverences Him as Lord, embraces His righteousness, and dreads offending Him worse than death~ Calvin

We're combining three services into one which I feel is a mistake. Our first service is poorly attended but I feel that we would have adequate attendance if we went to two services. Maybe even three.

I don't know yet if ours is but if it is, shame on them. Sunday is the Lord's day not Our day.

It is sad that any Church would NOT have Christmas Eve AND Christmas services. Sadder still that Christmas falls on a Sunday this year.

But why wouldn't we celebrate the Advent of our Lord and Savior?

We'll be having an extended celebration of the Lord's first advent that day, with a view toward His second advent as well. It's unbelievable that any church would close it's doors on any Lord's day except for some emergency like an earthquake or hurricane or something.

Amen Robin! I cannot fathom this fear of Jesus that so many have! What is this fear of Jesus' first advent, coupled with this fear of His death on the cross?
I stopped going to church at Christmas of 2004 and did not resume until November of 2005. Why? For many reasons, of course, but the final straw was the service before Christmas in 2004, the sermon was on....First Timothy. I love 1 Timothy as much as anybody else...but not during Advent and NOT right before Christmas!
Grace is not common.

To be clear, I'm not opposed to the celebration of Christmas, but I don't see it as having such importance that churches must celebrate it.
