My NASB Open Bible has about had it. Its only a sliver holding Romans chapters 8-12. There are other places almost as bad.
I have other Bibles but this is my main one - been carrying it to church, Bible studies, and daily reading since the mid 80s.
Does Nelson still publish the NASB Open Bible? Any other suggestions for my go-to Bible?

John,
If you are like me and have a habit of writing notes in the margins, then buying a new Bible and then taking weeks to transfer the notes over from the old Bible is a daunting proposition. What I have done in the past, e.g., I have an ASV Bible that I use for study and which is filled with personal notes, but sadly the binding finally let go, is to seek out a reliable Book Binder and have the Bible rebound. I chose to have mine bound in a quality leather binding and it is still intact to this day after 25 years.

I knew a fellow once who had just finished transferring all his notes into a new bible and LOST it. Someone found it on the highway and returned it to him--after it had been hit by a car or two. No word as to how it got there... <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/shocked.gif" alt="" /> It was a horror but you could still read the thing.
Short of having it rebound, go to a large christian bookstore with a good selection to bibles and find one you like. Make sure you can read the print and that the thing fits well in your hands. If you've got lots of notes get a Cambridge. (I think they make an NASB don't they?) It's got good wide margins and nice print.

My favorite version is also the NASB.Because of that We have a very small selection. Cambridge does not make a NASB.The Open Bible is still sold but only in "bonded leather". The best binding is calfskin and their are a couple bibles at Lockman Foundation. The "side column reference" and the Large print ultra thin bible.

For years I was ashamed of the condition of my bible. It is a Ref. study bible just a hardcover bible, but six years ago, I was in a sort of homeless situation and this bible was put away in a hot damp location and got pretty mildewed and rotten looking. I was in Mexico for a few months and in transition for close to a year. When I found my current church, I had unearthed this particular bible and was embarrassed by it but had no money so I put it in a sack to bring to church. Now, I have come to appreciate its tattered appearance for it is a reminder to me of where I have been and where the Lord has taken me. Soon, I could be in a position to replace it but now I am not so sure that I want to for it is good for me to remember what the Lord has done for me, where I have been and where He has taken me.

Jeff says: What I have done in the past, e.g., I have an ASV Bible that I use for study and which is filled with personal notes, but sadly the binding finally let go, is to seek out a reliable Book Binder and have the Bible rebound. If you don't, e.g., I rarely put notes in my bible, then you don't have to worry about that as an option. At "Lifeway" we always stock a couple of Bonded Leather and Hardback copies of the Open Bible. BibleRon says: The Open Bible is still sold but only in "bonded leather". That is correct. But you may be able to find an older Open Bible on Ebay. Ebay is a great place to shop for older bibles. But you can also see what is on the shelf today here at Chrisitanbook.com.BibleRon also says: Cambridge does not make a NASB. Cambridge used to print the NASB un-revised version. I own three of them. One cordoven leather, one calfskin and one goatskin. Again, I was able to find two of these on Ebay. But of course, this isn't the Open Bible. You can find a few NASB open bibles on ebay here.Y.B.I.C, Dave.

I don't want to start any ugly rumors or anything but a little bird told me that Cambridge was planning on releasing a wide-margin NASB again next year.

That would be awesome, even though it would be, I would think the revised NASB it would still be a great Bible to own. The wide margin would be a great addition. While I'm partial to the unrevised version of the NASB, I would would love to have a new Cambridge Calfskin Bible. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/cloud9.gif" alt="" /> Dave.

Cambridge Calfskin BibleI enjoy my KJV Goatskin Cambridge!!! I almost forgot about Hidden House. You can have an ASV rebound in your choice of several different kinds of leather. A little pricey!

Dave,
My understanding of the updated NASB is that old english pronouns and similar type of wording have been changed. For instance.
Isaiah 26:3
"The steadfast of mind Thou will keep in perfect peace, Because he trusts in Thee."
went to
"The steadfast of mind You will keep in perfect peace, Because he trusts in You."
Is my understanding of the change accurate?
btw, I'm still taking my bible to church and studies; thou I'm using my other Bibles mostly at home for reading and study.
