A friend of mine and I were having a discussion recently about the opportunities that "religious" movies provide Christians to speak the Gospel. Have any of you found that the above mentioned movie has opened opportunities that, in your opinion, would not have been available otherwise?

Oh some I suppose. I don't think they can actually hurt--in spite of all the Christian-generated hype around DVC. I've found its generally something you'd never have thought about that leads to THAT discussion. Once I had a conversation zip from clowns to Jesus in about two breaths. It was hard to keep up with that one.

Vince,

I believe your right. Even though most "religious" (in the broader sense of the word) movies promote somewhat flawed interpretations they also open up opportunities to discuss what the Bible does teach. Just like the Passion of Christ did and now the buzz is the Da Vinci Code.

Some will argue that's why we need to go see these movies so we can understand what they are all about. I disagree with that argument. Fortunately there's enough written about them to know where they err. We don't need to examine the movie so much as we just need to know the truth. When our friends discuss the arguments presented in the films we should be able to lead them to the Bible and point out what it says.

Personally, my wife and I have both had opportunities presented to us by our neighbors that allowed us to present the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ because a religious movie was being discussed. May God use our witness for His glory and for the benefit of our unsaved neighbors.

The DVC is opening several opportunities to witness. Paul used false gods as an opportunity to witness (Acts 17:23). However one needs to be properly prepared to do such. This means (1) know your offense---God's Word and prayer (Eph 6), and (2) know your assault plan/enemy--don't be ignorant of Satan's devices (2 Cor. 2:11).

Here is a brief paper that may help with witnessing.

This may be slightly off-topic, but I felt it would be appropriate to include this. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Here is an excellent resource: The Truth About Da Vinci Code.
