Pilgrim,
This is a good point.

Dear Friends,

Such EXCELLENT news. Not more than a quarter of an hour ago, the sister I mentioned in my opening post, left with a copy of the AOG document mentioned in the opening post as well as a copy of the fifth head, and the chart of the two branches of theology. (from the-highway.com) plus a sermon by Charles. H. Spurgeon "Free Will a Slave" and the reply that Pilgrim gave on page 1. (Which I was able to read along with the erroneous disclosure in the AOG doctrinal statement.)

Soli Deo Gloria!

The Assemblies of God leans toward Arminianism, though it accepts scriptural truth found in both positions. We agree with the Calvinist emphasis on God's sovereignty or supreme power and authority.

This is a very common statement held by many today. But it is woefully illogical since the two systems are antithetical to each other. The law of non-contradiction sums it up well, "Two things cannot be and not be at the same time."

Whats the problem? They are also ardently pre-tribulationist, therapturecouldcomeatanymoment folks who will gladly show you all the Bible Prophecies being fulfilled today, to prove it... <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/bananas.gif" alt="" />

You forgot to mention the fact that they use the newspaper to do this exegesis.

Pilgrim,

I found Article 10 of the Fifth Head of Doctrine, in regard to the matter of 'the perseverance of the saints' particularly inspiring.

'This assurance, however, is not produced by any peculiar revelation contrary to, or independant of the Word of God, but springs from faith in God's promises, which He has most abundantly revealed in His Word for our comfort; from the testimony of the Holy Spirit witnessing with our spirit that we are the children and heirs of God (Romans 8:16), and lastly, from a serious and holy desire to preserve a good conscience and to perform good works. And if the elect of God were deprived of this solid comfort that they shall finally obtain the victory and of this infallible pledge or earnest of eternal glory, they would be of all men the most miserable.'

This "I believe"

Straw.

"Arminianism teaches conditional predestination. We are predestined to eternal life if we accept God’s provision of salvation. "

I haven't read through all of the replies to this, so I'm sorry if this has already been said, but...

That statement doesn't even *make sense* It sounds like an oxymoron to me.

Straw, I'm glad you are searching out the truth and asking questions. Good to 'meet' you!

Hi Michelle,
Combining truth and lie, only results in a lie, never truth. (Cal-minian)

'Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.'
Galatians 5:1

'If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.'
John 8:36

I am quite in the middle of work, for about a month or two, so I hope to be back on forum, in July 2007.
