Hi people. I am sorry i havent been on in a long time but nice to be be back. Im usually too busy these days to be on but i have a wee question someone here might be able to help me with. Have any of you folk on this board Heard of the FGBMFI and if so can you give me any inside info? I went to one of their meetings and to me it seems that if you aint got "IT" your second class? Now im not thinking of becoming charasmatic or anything but i am just curious to know more about this organisation as the one one fellow i know who is a member is not exactly willing to look at it biblicaly.

Hmmm...I visited their website. Interesting folks-

Quote
The Full Gospel Business Men’s Fellowship International is an organization sovereignly ordained by God

Quote
Our vision for the fellowship is based upon a series of prophetic messages given over a period of time and confirmed by a literal vision from God.

Quote
We believe in the baptism in the Holy Spirit, accompanied by the initial physical sign of speaking with other tongues as the Spirit of God gives utterance (Acts 2:4) from the new birth, and in the nine gifts of the Spirit, listed in 1 Corinthians 12, as now available to believers.

That's when I say Red Alert. Any people who say that in order to be a Christian you need to speak in tounges IMO is contrary to the core tenants of Christianity. They do have an interesting story though- and a facinating mission statement. This is the first time I've heard of it though. Definately nothing I'd wish to be apart of =/

Here's a link if ya wanna read their claims...

Judging by their information page, they look like yet another charismatic group, drunk on their so-call "prophetic visions" and their ecstatic experiences of "speaking in tongues." Pretty much anything that calls itself "Full Gospel" looks with a condescending pity at anyone who doesn't believe the charismatic gifts are for today -- "those poor souls, they don't have the FULL Gospel of living with spiritual power today." My advice is to keep FAR AWAY from this group, lest you be dragged into error with them.

Those of us - especially former Charismatics - who insist that the charismata ceased centuries ago and served a very specific purpose for a very specific generation (see Matthew 23:29-28), are accused by Charismatics of "creating division" over the issue.

But in fact it's the Charismatics who foster division by creating a distinction between "full" gospel and what - "partial" gospel(?). Those that "have it" and those that don't. Awww, pity the poor "partial gospel" people who don't have the "full" experience and knowledge of God!

It is nothing less than neo-Gnosticism, and is characterized by the same elitism and condescension that the Gnostics of old held, with all claims of their "secret special insight" uncommon to ordinary "head-knowledge only" disciples of Jesus.

My very first exposure to "Charismania" as a pre-teen was in an FGBMFI meeting. I was awestruck and seduced by the "super-spirituality" and false intimacy they displayed.

Hi thanks for that. Dont worry though i am well rounded where i am but i am just looking information o challenge my friend with. Not for arguments sakeof course. More for biblical defence. The bible and not experience is the test. I just hope to show my friend that

Yes oi know what you mean. But my first meeting i went to i just prayed "Lord i am not going to beleive anything i see unless it checks out with your word" And what do you know, i picked up one of their leaflets and it used that passage in acts 18, or 19 where peter askes if they had recieved the holy spirit etc. On a board like this im sure you are all well aware that thse people were not even saved yet, they were JOHNS deciples. So to cut it short, its divisive, this i know. i Have a great book i am reading on "charasmatic chaos" and i am getting to grips with the bigger picture but not so much this org's specifics. Hence the post

This group had its heydey back in the 1980s, riding the crest of the wave of the charismatic movement. I haven't heard much about them lately, and I imagine they have dwindled in number and influence although there is obviously an organization still intact. I suspect that the FGBMFI, like the charismatic churches that fed into it, simply burned out their members with their "can you beat this?" mentality, the excessive and burdensome demands and expectations of spiritual experience, walking in victory, etc. and the constant hype and hoopla from the pulpit. Even the most ardent charismatic can only endure so much of that.
