What does the Bible say regarding women serving in high office or governing a nation? I read Isaiah 3:12 where it says:
"As for My people, children are their oppressors, And women rule over them. O My people! Those who lead you cause you to err, And destroy the way of your paths."
I definitely will not vote for Barack Obama. On the other hand my conscience isn't clear if voting for a woman is biblical either. Yes, there are third party candidates, but a vote for them is an indirect vote for Obama.

D.J. said: What does the Bible say regarding women serving in high office or governing a nation? Hmmmmm Perhaps someone here knows where Scripture speaks to this issue, but unfortunately I do not recall any. As I responded in another similar thread, I can only repeat what I wrote there. Scripture is very explicit about male headship in regard to the Church and its officers and the home where the man is the head of the woman (wife). What I do read is that whoever is governing in a civil office, believers are to render respect and obedience "as unto the Lord", i.e., unless the government requires what God forbids or if the government forbids what God requires. Now, the passage you quoted is notable as is the record of Deborah as Judge. In both situations, God allowed a woman to rule as judgment against Israel as a nation. However, Israel was unique in that it was the one and only theocracy governed directly by God through prophets, priests and kings. Israel is no more and shall not return and there is no nation on earth that is its replacement; the Church is now the true Israel. Okay... now my personal preference. I do not believe it is good/right for a woman to rule a nation among other agencies. God created woman to be a "help meet" to man and in that role she excels if she conforms herself to God's design. Secondly, one votes for the President and not the Vice President, even though should the President die or become incapacitated, the VP then rules. Lastly, we must all vote according to conscience and hopefully in regard to the policies espoused, the ability of the individuals to rule a country in ALL of its aspects and not in regard to one or two issues, e.g., abortion or homosexuality. I would much rather have a pagan as President who could rule well than a Christian who wasn't capable of doing so. In His grace,
simul iustus et peccator
