I'm trying to follow the actual route that Israel took through the Red Sea and my Bible maps don't show the path going near what is the Red Sea. I know we're probably not certain of the exact route, but from what I read in Exodus and follow on the maps contained in my Bible, Israel must have gone across the Nile River rather than the Red Sea.

The biggest hurdle is to determine what was recognized as the Red Sea during the time of Moses. Methinks it would be very difficult to find any documents or maps that were of that period that would give the boundaries of the Red Sea.

What I must take into account regardless of where the Israelites crossed is that it was deep enough to drown the Egyptians who followed behind them. Thus, using "good and necessary inference and deduction" grin the crossing did not take place where the water was naturally shallow.
