I've just read the article What is it to Preach the Gospel?, which is a transcript of an excellent sermon preached by Henry Mahan on 1974 June 16. The sermon may be listened to on sermonaudio.com, at What Is It to Preach the Gospel?. Henry Mahan was pastor at (among others) Thirteenth Street Baptist Church in Ashland, KY. Jim Byrd, present pastor at Thirteenth Street Baptist Church, Bill Parker, pastor at Eager Avenue Grace Church in Albany, Ga., and Ken Wimer, pastor at Shreveport Grace Church in Shreveport, LA., which three are among the several superb preachers of the gospel whom we regularly listen to, were all students (if that is the right word) of Henry Mahan. They, and all of Henry Mahan's recorded sermons, are all well worth listening to, for anyone interested.

There is no such thing as preaching Christ and Him crucified, unless we preach what nowadays is called Calvinism. It is a nickname to call it Calvinism; Calvinism is the gospel, and nothing else. - C.H. Spurgeon
