Not at first, but I really began to see it that way after countless "altar calls" where the preacher is all but begging for someone to respond. That famous picture of Jesus "knocking on the door of your heart" - aside from the flagrant disregard for the Second Commandment - makes the Lord appear weak and needy, as if the "master of the house" would be doing the Lord a favor by allowing the Lord in out of the cold and into the warmth and coziness of the sinner's "heart."

At some point that picture of a wimpy, needy Jesus began to offend me, and I found myself despising altar calls. At first I thought there was something wrong with me, despising altar calls. "What kind of Christian am I to have such feelings of disgust and revulsion during the invitation?"

Now I'm like, "Don't you dis my Lord by making Him into some kind of frustrated, needy wimp!"
