I have a question to you folks. The context is the following:
On Saturday mornings here on radio there is a former pastor who answers some questions on basically christian issues. I have noted that he likes to refer to "followers of Jesus". For example he will say that a follower of Jesus will act in this or that way etc. In fact very rarely if ever he refers to true faith.
My question: True believers are indeed followers of Jesus but are all followers of Jesus true believers? Should one therefore not be carefull in how you use a phrase like "followers of Jesus"?
I have my own answer to that but would like to hear what you say.

I don't know the answer so in a Google search I came up with THIS. However, when we read about Jesus' ministry, we hear about the "multitudes" that followed Him and yet, how many of them were true believers? More like a remnant. The terminology sounds like a catchy phrase but does not seem to identify a true believer.

There is also this "Followers of Jesus" group, which may not have anything to do with what this man is referring to.

He is using it, I think, in the way of the link you refer to.

There is a pastor in the small town where I live that uses the term "Christ Follower" which I guess would be the same thing as what you are refering to.

Johan,
The NT has several examples of individuals/groups that "followed" Jesus but who lacked true saving faith, e.g., Luke 8:11ff; John 2:23-25; 6:2,22-27ff; Hebrews 6:4-6. The "following" which we read of in these passages are not dissimilar to those today who "follow" after men more than they follow after Christ. There is a fleshly following, i.e., a following for wrong reasons. And, there is a following which is rooted in a love for Christ and a deep desire to conform oneself to Christ through sanctification; the putting off the old man and the putting on the new. Few "count the cost" before proclaiming allegiance and professing to believe on Him.
