Have any of you ever so believed something that your conscience regarded as an undeniable, solemn fact, only to later discover that it was untrue? For example, people believe in false doctrines, and are certain they "know" them to be true, only to later be convinced, with the same level of certainty, that the original premise was false. I am interested in anecdotes on this subject.

Flunky1,

I'm not sure that this is what you are looking for, but.... I was raised Roman Catholic and certainly "believed" in indulgences and purgatory. I believed that Mary, was to be prayed to and could help us by intervening ! I believed in a lot of that until "my eyes were opened" and I was led to read the Word myself. There were many things that I fought, until I was overwhelmed with the logic and truth of the Reformed doctrines. Oh, the wonderful mercy and love of our Lord God!!!!!!!!!!!

In His Hands,

Ruth

Ruth, thanks for the feedback. I've actually wondered if anyone who believed in false religion was so convinced in their error as to feel, before God and their conscience, that they "KNEW", as it were, that the thing they erroneously believed in was true. Scripture speaks of strong delusions that would cause people to believe a lie; I'm wondering if it applied in this sort of case.

Anyway, I'm glad you were delivered from false religion! God was merciful to you!

I used to be a Charismatic, tongue speaking and all. I never really gave a thought whether I was right or wrong, I just knew it was "okay" because it was in the Bible.

"For my conscience is clear, but that does not vindicate me. It is the Lord who examines me." 1 Cor. 4:4 ISV
